Blog Post #1: 10 Favorite Things To Watch

I'm not really huge on cable that much simply because the cable at my apartment is trash.com, but I have several shows that are kind of my go to things to watch and I'll also throw in a few movies in there that are kind of my go-to movies. Some of my favs may be slightly ratchet but I love them so here we go! Btw, they aren't in any particular order.

10. Gossip Girl

I pretty much have an addiction to this show to be honest. I had to kind of slap myself because I was watching it right before I started on this blog. If you start watching it, it's extremely hard to stop. Which is probably why I stayed up until 6 a.m. yesterday watching it. The tea was piping hot honey (My favorite character is Chuck Bass, by the way.)

This show was created by Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz about teens living in the Upper East Side of Manhattan but can never escape drama no matter how privileged they are. The ruthless blogging site  Gossip Girl is always two steps of everyone and is always watching to see what tea is going to be spilled next.

9. Shameless

This is a show that if you haven't heard of it you've been living under a rock. This dramedy, created by John Wells, based on a British series centers on siblings in a dysfunctional Chicago family who struggle while coping with their alcoholic father. It's one of those series where you need a weekend with nothing to do because once you start you're going to want to binge watch it.

8. Love & Hip Hop

This is probably the most ratchet thing of the things I love watching but I watch every single week. It's a reality show on VH1 created by Mona Scott Young about up and coming and also a few vets in the Hip Hop game dealing with love life and careers. They have many explosive storylines in the series filled with scandal. It's based in cities all around the US like New York, Atlanta, Hollywood and most recently Miami. The series is one of those more "scripted" reality shows but very entertaining nonetheless. Stars like Cardi B and K Michelle have had break out careers from the show.

7. Family Guy mansion episode

I don't know a soul on Earth who doesn't love or find this show entertaining. it never ceases to be hilarious to me. My favorite characters would definitely be Stewie and Bryan as a duo. Anyway, this show was created by Seth MacFarlane based In a wacky Rhode Island town, a dysfunctional family strive to cope with everyday life as they are thrown from one crazy scenario to another. (Usually because of Peter) Below is my favorite episode.

Favorite Episode ever: "And Then There Were Fewer"

6. Spongebob band episode

The most iconic Sponge you'll ever meet, Spongebob Squarepants. This is my favorite cartoon EVER in the history of cartoonism. (I know that's not a thing.) I watched this as far back as I can remember. Created by the great Stephen Hillenburg, it just seemed like he had me in mind when making this cartoon. In case you've been living under a rock like his BFF Patrick, this is a show chronicling the adventures/nautical nonsense of Spongebob and his friends in their city of Bikini Bottom. My favorite scene of  all time from Spongebob is below.

5. HBCU Band videos

I used to be a majorette in high school and we played music and was always inspired by the songs they played and the "stands" that the dancers do. When I became the captain of my team my senior year, the dance teams of these three bands were the inspiration for some of the routines I came up with. I stilll watch them to this day and I want to share my love of dance with all of y'all. Below are videos of my favorite HBCU dance teams and you'll see why.

4. Bates Motel

I'm super into learning about serial killers and people's conspiracies on why the id what they did, don't ask why I just am. The series, a contemporary prequel and reimagining of Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film Psycho (based on Robert Bloch's novel of the same name), depicts the lives of Norman Bates and his mother Norma prior to the events portrayed in the film, albeit in a different fictional town (White Pine Bay, Oregon, as opposed to the film's Fairvale, California) and in a modern-day setting. I really love this series because I think they did a great job of making a classic old school movie into something modern without being corny.

3. YouTube videos

I plan on uploading content on my own YouTube channel very soon and it's been a long time coming, be on the lookout! (My channel name is Jamaica Sequoyah, I may change it to Maicaveli. Shameless plug, I know) I love YouTube videos and I can sit and watch them all day long. I watch just about everything from makeup tutorials to tech videos. A few of my favorite youtubers include Cosmeholics Anonymous, Glamzontay, TroyceTV, Jayla Koriyan, HeyParis, Nikki Glamour the list goes on. They really inspire me and I really encourage you guys to check out their channels.

2. Power

This show right here has the perfect name for it because that's basically what it's all about, power. The show was created by Courtney Kemp Agboh and is produced by the rapper Curtis "50 Cent' Jackson. The show is about James "Ghost" St. Patrick, a wealthy New York night club owner who has it all, catering for the city's elite and dreaming big, lives a double life as a drug kingpin. You'll be hooked on this show the minute you start because it's so many plot twists and turns. All I can say is tune into the show you won't regret it.

1. Insecure

Based from the hit YouTube series "Awkward Black Girl" by Issa Rae, was transformed into a hit show on HBO. When I first started watching this I was instantly hooked and was very inspired to see Issa come from YouTube to this mass success. I used to watch her show on YouTube and it warms my heart to see how far she came from there, she's legit goals for me. Anyway for the people who haven't seen it here's a brief synopsis: Modern-day black women might be described as strong and confident; in other words, just the opposite of Issa and Molly.

As the best friends deal with their own real-life flaws, their insecurities come to the fore as together they cope with an endless series of uncomfortable everyday experiences.the comedy series looks at the friendship of two black women in a unique, authentic way. It features the music of both indie and established artists of color, and touches on a variety of social and racial issues that relate to the contemporary black experience. It's a must watch honestly, I feel like you can relate to this no matter what race of gender.
